Open Space & Recreation Plan 2007-2012

Arlington’s Open Space and Recreation Plan 2007-2012 has been approved by State authorities and is available for you to see, here on the Town's website.  The report is large and graphic intensive. It has been broken up into smaller chapters in pdf format for more easier downloading. See below.

The need to preserve and protect existing open spaces in widely recognized and supported by Arlington’s residents.  Changing demographics in Arlington reflect the increased usage of locations where active sports and play take place, but there is need as well for natural green spaces for walking and quiet contemplation of the outdoors.  The community faces serious management, staffing and financial challenges to address the diverse needs for conservation land, parks, play and sports areas.  Progress is ongoing in an ordered manner to enhance key sites; Friends groups have been key supporters of these efforts, advocating and raising funds for their sites.

Our first comprehensive open space review was in 1996. The Plan which follows is Arlington’s third Plan; it reports on the efforts and accomplishments of the previous 5-year plan, and presents a detailed agenda for future efforts, which are likely to go well beyond a 5-year program.  Only through community involvement and support can the numerous goals be met and resources maintained.  We hope you will be inspired by the report, and join in efforts to maintain your neighborhood resources – those used by you and your family and friends. Join in the larger community efforts to manage and support the Town’s outdoor resources and facilities.  Regional collaborations supplement the local efforts in finding solutions to environmental impact which start or go beyond our town borders.

We look forward to working on the programs described and welcome all community involvements in their development.  Join Us! Please contact Joey Glushko for more information.
