In recent years, several projects and community needs have been identified related to the athletic and park facilities located at Summer Street. The Town of Arlington Park and Recreation Commission decided that, in order to prepare for any changes to the recreational facilities at the Summer Street complex, a master plan was necessary to assist in the short term and long term planning. The Town of Arlington hired the services of Sasaki Associates Inc. of Watertown MA to facilitate the planning process and draft a master plan. Sassaki Associates has vast experience in
recreational facility master plan design, including the designs for college recreation and wellness centers and ice rink facilities.
The scope of work for the feasibility study includes:
Task 1 – Data Collection
Task 2 – Program Development
Task 3 – Master Plan Options
Task 4 – Development of Preferred Plan Option
Task 5 – Cost Estimate
Task 6 – Summary Report
The Park and Recreation Commission held a preliminary public input session in October 2008 and recently held a subsequent public input session in February to review some draft concepts. The Park and Recreation Commission will be reviewing the feedback from both public sessions and other input provided by users and community members. The Commission hopes to have completed the feasibility study by Spring 2009 and will then determine how best to move forward to implement the vision with short-term and long-term projects.
The presentation that was given at the February 18, 2009 meeting can be downloaded here (1.6MB pdf). It is important to understand that all of the draft plans illustrated were used for discussion purposes only and to solicit feedback and do not constitute any actual renovation plans at this point in the process.
