By serving on a Town Committee/Commission/Board you'll make a valuable contribution to the community of Arlington and meet other residents who share similar interests. The Board of Selectmen is seeking 2 Arlington residents to serve as members of the Arlington Tree Committee (2 vacancies). The Board of Selectmen is seeking an Arlington resident to serve as a member of the Permanent Town Building Committee (1 vacancy). The Arlington School Committee is accepting applications through January 6, 2012 for service on the Arlington Human Rights Commission (AHRC).
The AHRC was created by Town Meeting in 1993 to advance issues related to the fair and equal treatment of individuals and to create a mechanism for addressing complaints arising out of these issues. The School Committee is one of three appointing authorities to the Commission.
The mission of the AHRC is to work individually and collaboratively with other groups in our community to celebrate the ever-changing tapestry of our Town, and to emphasize through educational outreach the danger of intolerance at every level. The Commission usually meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Jefferson Cutter House.
The Board of Selectmen is seeking 3 Arlington residents to serve as members of the Arlington Committee on Tourism and Economic Development (3 vacancies). The Arlington Recycling Committee is seeking two to three Arlington residents to serves as formal members and an unlimited number of committee volunteers. Volunteers are always sought for recycling events and are welcome to attend meetings. The Committee generally meets on the 1st Thursday of the month, 7:30 p.m., Town Hall Annex (check Town Meeting calendar before heading out). The Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee seeks 1 Arlington resident to serve on its seven-member committee. The appointment is for a term of 3-years. The ABAC meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Please submit a letter of interest to chairman Christopher Tonkin by Dec. 9, 2011.
