Announcements:
Mystic River Watershed Association water quality samples found that Spy Pond has a microcystis (bluegreen) algae bloom and therefore as of 9/6/07, there is public health advisory against swimming, wading and dog/pet bathing. The situation should remain in effect until either the temperature drops to kill the algae or rains dilute the toxins to safer levels.
The water quality appeared fine on the main parts of the pond, while kayaking on 9/30. The water level was still quite low. There were swan (with juveniles), Canada geese, cormorants, mallards, and seagulls.
Preliminary FEMA flood maps were due September 2007, not yet received.
Mystic River gets a D rating from EPA. Globe Article 4/17/07.
