ARLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
NOVEMBER 1, 2001
Mr. Stevens called the meeting to order at 7:30pm in the second floor conference room of the Town Hall Annex. Present were Nathaniel Stevens, Judith Hodges, David White, Timothy Sullivan and Christine Wallace of the Commission. Ron Sender of 31 Walnut St. was present regarding the work on the drainage structure on the bike path. Cori Beckwith, Conservation Administrator was not present due to illness.
7:30 Other business
Request by abutter to remove dead tree from conservation land at Kilsythe Road – Mr. White visited the site and took picture. After discussion, White/Wallace moved to have tree warden contacted to remove tree; motion passed unanimously.
Request for site walk at 12 Mystic Bank – Commission needed more information from Conservation Administrator.
7:45 – REPAIR OF DRAINAGE STRUCTURE, GERI’S BROOK AT BIKEPATH – NOTICE OF INTENT
Applicant or its representative did not appear, nor did anyone have new information from the applicant. After brief discussion, Sullivan/Hodges moved to continue hearing to November 15, 2001; motion passed unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS – continued:
Minutes for October 18, 2001 approved with edits; Sullivan/White motion passed unanimously.
Capital Budge Committee meeting – report by Ms. Hodges who attended: committee has questions about Commission’s two budget items: Cooke’s Hollow and Water Chestnut Removal at the Reservoir. Commission discussed question and provided answers.
Mr. Stevens will contact Town Manager about new members.
Frances Clark will make another presentation of her Great Meadows report to the Lexington Conservation Commission’s Land Stewardship Committee, November 13, 7:30 p.m., Police Station Conference Room, Lexington.
Commission discussed idea of presenting the Great Meadows to spring Town Meeting.
Mr. White reported on the Open Space Committee’s latest ideas about the Arlington Land Steward Program, discussed at last Open Space meeting attended by him and Mr. Stevens. Mr. White will be preparing handbook for land stewards.
Mr. White and Mr. Stevens reported on the site visit November 3 with Lexington Con Com for a proposed single family home and driveway behind Busa Farm and abutting Monroe Brook. Mr. White discussed possible extension of Monroe Brook trails in area of project site.
Mr. White reported on Reservoir Committee meeting: no new news on the dam.
Mr. Stevens reminded Commissioners of MACC Annual Meeting on March 2, 2002.
Ms. Wallace discussed and handed out information on Phase II NPDES Stormwater requirements which will apply to Arlington. She offered to conduct a workshop on this comprehensive regulatory program.
The Commission noted and congratulated the awarding of the state grant for Spy Pond.
The Commission voted to convene at approximately 9:15pm.
