ARLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 19, 2002
Mr. Stevens called the meeting to order at 7:30pm in the second floor conference room of the Town Hall Annex. Present were Nathaniel Stevens, David White, Timothy Sullivan, Catherine Garnett, and Judith Hodges. Christine Wallace of the Commission was not in attendance.
7:30pm MISCELLANEOUS –
White/Hodges motioned to approve the 9/5 minutes as written; motion passed unanimously.
The Commission submitted its Capital Budget proposal that includes 1) the continuation of the water chestnut harvesting at the Reservoir for two years at $15K per year and 2) Cooke’s Hollow for $20K. The Commission held a site walk 9/11 at Cooke’s Hollow and determined the work that is needed, pruning of invasive Norway Maples, redirection of a footpath, placement of erosion control fabric, planting of Mountain Laurel, resetting stonework and reconfiguring lowest embankment out of flow of Mill Brook, placement of shrubs/fence at end of Buzzell field to slow down runoff, removal of trash.
Ms. Beckwith began the plant survey at Meadowbrook Park on September 18th. The site is growing quite well, diverse and tangled.
The decision in the Mugar property court case was issued in our favor. Mr. Stevens will draft a press release.
Announcements:
The Conservation Commission will hold a fall cleanup of the Window on the Mystic on Saturday, October 26th at 10am.
The Friends of Arlington’s Great Meadows will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, September 24, 7:30pm at the Waldorf School .
A cleanup of the Busa woods at the Arlington Reservoir will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 8:30am.
The Arlington Land Trust’s annual meeting will be held at 7pm, Monday, November 18 at the Robbins Library.
The Commission voted to convene at approximately 9pm.
