ARLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
JUNE 19, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm at the second floor conference room of the Town Hall Annex. Present were David White, Christine Wallace, Catherine Garnett and Judith Hodges of the Commission. Nathaniel Stevens and Timothy Sullivan were not in attendance. Clarissa Rowe and Marianna Foskett were present to discuss Hills Pond. Erin Graham of the Winchester Conservation Commission was present to discuss flood improvement projects along the Aberjona River. Mark Graham, 21 Locke St was also present.
7:45pm 21 LOCKE ST – working session
Mr. Graham presented information on the construction of an addition to his house. The hearing for this project will be conducted at the next meeting, 7/10/03.
8:00pm HILLS POND, MENOTOMY ROCKS PARK – working session
Ms. Rowe and Ms. Foskett discussed various items of work for the area around Hills Pond. The Commission and the Friends of Menotomy Rocks Park are working on a draft permit for maintenance projects. The multifloria roses near the path are going to removed and new plants planted. The rose materials will be placed in the municipal trash to be incinerated. Cattails and purple loosestrife will be removed by hand from the wetland. The hemlocks are going to be injected with some sort of control for the Wooly Adelgid. Ms. Beckwith was charged with looking up the maintenance conditions of the vortechnics unit installed in the park.
Whilte/Wallace motioned to approve the work mentioned above, while the drafting of a more formal permit takes place; motioned passed unanimously.
8:45pm 8 MYSTIC BANK – Request for Certificate of Compliance –
Ms. Beckwith inspected the yard to confirm the planting of a beech tree near the shore. This work was completed and she recommended the issuance of the Certificate.
White/Wallace motioned to issue the Certificate of Compliance with ongoing condition to maintain new beech tree to full growth height; motion passed unanimously
MISCELLANEOUS –
Ms. Graham of the Winchester Conservation Commission discussed the flood improvement projects that are being proposed in Winchester. The Arlington Conservation Commission will draft a comment to the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs on the proposal. According to calculations performed by CDM for MDC this work will increase peak flood elevations in the Alewife Brook.
The Commission voted to convene at approximately 9:30pm.
