ARLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

JANUARY 8, 2004

Mr. Stevens called the meeting to order at 7:30pm in the second floor conference room of the Town Hall Annex.  Present were Nathaniel Stevens, David White, and Catherine Garnett of the Commission.  Judith Hodges, Ellen Reed and Timothy Sullivan were absent.  
  
7:30pm  - COMMISSION BUSINESS
Enforcements:
339 Mystic St –Ms. Beckwith returned the voicemail to Amal, left a voicemail.  He returned a message stating that he can be contacted in the afternoons, after Ms. Beckwith’s hours.  Mr. Stevens directed her to leave a message telling Amal to attend our next meeting, 1/22, with plans.  

7:45pm – MT. GILBOA CONSERVATION LAND – art project proposal.

Suzanne McLeod presented photographs of previous art projects.  Her proposal involves placing small rocks (2-3 inches) painted red, in three locations on the property near existing pathways.  The display will be installed in the Spring  (May) for a month.  The Commission asked questions and made comments on the state of use of the property.  The Commission did not have a quorum this evening, but will vote on this matter at the 1/22 meeting.  If approved, the Commission will issue a letter to Ms. McLeod.  This letter will be forwarded to the Arlington Cultural Council and the Land Stewards.

The Commission asked Ms. McLeod if she would like to present her proposal at the annual Land Stewards meeting on March 23, 2004.  She seemed favorable to the idea.

COMMISSION BUSINESS, CONT.

22 Nourse St – Ms. Beckwith scheduled a site walk on 1/9/04 in order to measure the distance from the bank of Noname Brook to the wall of the proposed large addition.  The Commission will also issue a revised memo to stop all work until the setback can be verified.

The 2003 annual report is due 1/15/04.  The Commission will ask Judy Hodges to help with this task.  She might welcome the work.

Kevin O’Brien, Planning Director, is trying to organize joint meetings of the Conservation Commission and the Zoning Board in order to expedite the permit review for the Pierce Field project.  He will contact us with a schedule as soon as he can work it out.   

The Commission convened at approximately 9:00pm.
