ARLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

SEPTEMBER 1, 2005

Mr. Stevens called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. in the second floor conference room of the Town Hall Annex.  Present were David White, Catherine Garnett, Judith Hodges, Nathaniel Stevens, and William O’Rourke of the Commission.  Cori Beckwith, Administrator, and Ellen Reed, and Timothy Sullivan of the Commission were absent.  Also present was Kevin O’Brien, Director of the Planning Department and Arlington Redevelopment Board Secretary.

7:45 p.m.  – SYMMES OPEN SPACE – management plan and conservation restriction

Mr. O’Brien updated the Commission on the revisions to the documents and revised plans, including confirming that the two lots abutting Woodside Lane are part of the Conservation Area.  Ms. Garnett reported on the ARB’s special permit hearing on August 29, which she attended.  Discussion about purpose of buffer areas and potential location(s) of fences.  Commission reviewed plant schedule for landscaping plan and will recommend to ARB that Barberry (Berbers Thunbergii ‘Atroupurpurea’), which is on the state’s Invasive Species List, be substituted with a non-invasive species.  Draft letter to ARB discussed and revised.

O’Rourke/White moved to approve the Management Plan; motion passed unanimously.

The Commission voted to convene at approximately 8:30 p.m.
