Forest Street Funding Expected Soon
June 14, 2010
The Town of Arlington is scheduled to receive federal funding of $1.6 million dollars for the reconstruction of Forest Street from the Winchester line to Summer Street.

“Using federal funding, in conjunction with state aid, for this project is in keeping with the spirit of creating jobs and allows the Town to fund other paving projects,” said Town Manager Brian Sullivan. “I’d like to thank residents and abutters of Forest Street for their patience while we applied for this federal funding and Senator Donnelly and Representative Garballey for their assistance in getting the funding approved.”

The work will be performed on a contract through Mass. Highway. The state has tentatively scheduled that bidding for this project will be advertised in late July. When the state awards the contract a construction schedule will be provided to abutters and posted online at arlingtonma.gov/dpwprojects.

The proposed project consists of the rehabilitation of approximately a half mile of Forest Street starting at the Arlington/Winchester line to the intersection of Forest and Summer Streets. The work includes pavement reconstruction, upgrade of the existing closed drainage system, uniform edge treatment including granite curbing, and sidewalk reconstruction to improve pedestrian accommodations. Shared accommodations for all users have been provided in accordance with applicable guidelines.
