MWRA to Begin Phase 3 Construction in Arlington Center, Sept. 7
Phase 3 prep-work of the MWRA’s Section 28 Pipeline project is scheduled to begin on September 7, construction on September 13.
Construction activity will take place during daytime hours Monday through Friday for approximately 8 to 10 weeks. The work site is located on the eastbound lanes of Massachusetts Avenue from Pleasant Street to Medford St. All businesses within the area will be open and accessible during the construction. There will be travel lane, parking, and some sidewalk restrictions. There are no planned water shut offs during this phase.
Temporary site restoration will take place prior to the winter months. Final restoration involving landscaping, new trees, and sidewalks is scheduled to be completed in the Spring 2011.
Phase 3 work will include the replacement of a short section of a 56-inch steel pipeline (WASM 3) in order to install a new 54-inch valve along with associated smaller pipe interconnections and structures. This is the final phase of the rehabilitation of this pipeline, which was constructed in 1899 and provides suction to the Brattle Court Pump Station in Arlington.
