MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 20, 2006

Audible Pedestrian Signals on Summer Street:
A few residents of the Summer Street Neighborhood Association expressed concern about the volume level of the audible pedestrian signals recently installed on Summer Street. Commission Members agreed to discuss this issue further and to attempt if possible to work out a mutually agreeable compromise with the Summer Street Neighborhood Association. Commission Members agreed that at the January Commission Meeting they would decide on a recommendation to the Town Manager pertaining to the Summer Street Audible Pedestrian Signals.

Tom Boudreau Memorial Bench:
Jack Jones said that the bench has been installed by Public Works at the Dallin Playfield. Jack said that the Boudreau Family would be agreeable to having a formal dedication of the bench after April 4, 2007.

Town Hall Assistive Listening Devices:
Jack Jones said that the Deputy Town Manager had contacted himself regarding complaints that the Town Hall assistive listening devices were not working. Jack said that after replacement of a few plugs that had been removed the assistive listening devices are now working properly.

Arlington Housing Authority’s Group Home Proposed for Medford Street:
Kerrie Fallon sent a letter from the Disability Commission to the Housing Authority stating the Commission support for housing opportunities for disabled residents. In the letter Kerrie did mention the concern regarding segregating disable residents at the group home instead of the Commission’s desire to have disabled residents more integrated within the community. Kerrie also requested the consideration of the Housing Authority to work with the Commission on this project and future proposals.

Community Development Update:
Joey Glushko said that Alewife Reservation Path Project is moving forward. Joey also said that progress is being made on the East Arlington Sidewalk and Pedestrian Improvement Project. Barbara Cutler said that when meetings are held in February to discuss planning issues in Arlington the subject of universal design should be discussed.

Other Business:
Kerrie Fallon said that she and Maureen St. Hilaire meet with the Town Manager to introduce themselves as the new Commission Chair and Vice Chair. At the meeting Kerrie requested advice on how the Commission could become more involved in the Town. Kerrie said that the Town Manager provided some ideas on how the Commission could more effectively outreach to the community.
