The LINKS Program (Linking Neighborhood Kids with Seniors) is a volunteer effort by middle school students.  Ottoson Middle School students are matched with seniors living in their neighborhood who request assistance with outdoor projects.

Leaf raking, yard clean-up, weeding, moving trash to the curb, and snow shoveling are the types of services provided. There is a fee based on the extent and difficulty of the work. It is not based on the number of students working, or the hours it takes to complete the task. Due to the age of the students, they do not use any power tools, such as snow blowers or lawn mowers.

Snow removal is a popular request. The students are able to shovel reasonable amounts, but cannot be expected to remove huge corner ice mounds left by plows. This requires heavy equipment and adult strength. Please note, it takes about a week for students and seniors to be LINK'd. Make your requests in late Fall, if possible.

Seniors with questions about the LINKS services, or requesting services should call Joyce Killingsworth at the Council on Aging, 781-316-3404. She will review the projects and obtain the necessary information relating to your request to forward to the LINKS Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator, Dennis Mercurio, will contact each senior with names and contact information of students in approximately one week.

This program runs throughout the year.
