BYS meeting 11/3/10
Members present: Bobby Bongiorno, Ann Horgan, Lynn Horgan, Joan Robbio, Kevin Flood, Lori Talanian, Elizabeth Oppedisano, Donna Dolan, Carlene Newell
I. Motion to accept minutes- Lori Talanian seconded by Joan Robbio. Approved unanimously.
II. Lynn Horgan introduced new board member Ann Horgan. Ann Horgan is the Director of Residential services at Germaine Lawrence and very excited to join the Board of Youth Services.
III. AYCC Update: Phyllis Brown reported that there will be an open house on 11/15 from 4:30-5:30pm to thank those who facilitated the transformation of the agency. After the open house there will be a meet and greet at 6pm for staff and fee for service clinicians to meet. Phyllis also updated the board on the evolution of the agency over the past few months.
IV. Bobby Bongiorno reported to the board that a social worker has been chosen to work in the police department through the grant that was secured with the Edinburgh Center.
V. Christine Connolly updated the board on many items: the final AYCC logo had been chosen, the first check had been received from the Symmes Committee, the 501c3 had been firmed up and there will be an agency that will assist with and initial assessment. Additionally, Connolly reported that Colleen Leger from the Arlington Youth Health and Safety Coalition wrote a grant for a case manager for AYCC and Highrock Church had reached out to also assist with funding a case manager.
VI. Lori Talanian presented updates on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Talanian reported that the Thanksgiving basket collection will be conducted through many sources and that volunteers would be needed to assemble baskets and distribute to over 50 families. Talanian reported that the Holiday Help program givers all responded positively. Gifts will be collected and distributed 12/13 through 12/17.
VII. Lynn Horgan reported that she is looking into submitting an application for Arlington to receive the designation of 100 Best Communities for Young People.
VIII. Elizabeth Oppedisano reported that AHS will pay for SADD day.
