The Arlington Public Health Department expects to receive H1N1 flu vaccine by the end of October and beginning of November. The Department will first begin providing vaccinations to Arlington Public School children on a voluntary basis by going into each school. Once all of the schools are complete, the Department will hold large public clinics at Arlington Town Hall on nights and weekends for the general public that fall within the priority groups as defined by the CDC.
The priority groups include persons in the following categories: pregnant women, healthcare workers and EMS, persons age 6 months to 24 years, persons age 25 to 64 years with chronic health conditions and caregivers of babies under 6 months.
The Arlington Health Department is working closely with all Town emergency planning partners to effectively vaccinate all residents that are at the highest risk of becoming ill with H1N1 flu. There are a number of private physicians in Arlington and surrounding communities that will also have H1N1 vaccine for their high risk patients. The Health Department will rely on its Medical Reserve Corps to assist with this vaccination effort.
For regular updates and for department clinic schedules for both seasonal flu and H1N1 flu, please check the Town website at www.arlingtonma.gov/health. For more information about H1N1 flu, visit the CDC website at www.flu.gov.
The Board of Health has been working closely with the Arlington School Department and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) monitoring the H1N1 flu. They have compiled helpful information in English, Portuguese, and Spanish on the School's website. You can view this information here.
