BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES

Staff in Attendance: Denise Boucher (Tobacco Health Compliance Officer), Joseph Carabello (Health Compliance Officer), Christine Connolly, (Director of Public Health, Health Compliance Officer)
I. Minutes of July 31, 2002 meeting accepted as written.
II. Patsy Kraemer announced Christine Connolly as new Director of Public Health for the Town of Arlington. Discussed budget for town and cuts to Human Services which includes a cut to the Health Compliance Officer position.
III. Denise Boucher presented the final State of Massachusetts cuts to the Arlington Tobacco Control Program. The program has been cut from $60, 224 to $43, 321. This cut allows the Town to continue the program in town with one part time staff person. Beginning September 23, 2002 Ms. Boucher will work on a part time basis.
IV. Christine Connolly presented West Nile Virus data for Arlington to the Board. Arlington has tested 12 birds for WNV, 5 of which tested positive for the virus. At this time, the State Department of Public Health will not be testing any more birds from the Town of Arlington, it has been determined that the virus is present. Connolly stated that no positive mosquitoes have been found in Arlington and that residents are urged to continue eliminating sources of standing water and take precautions against mosquito bite exposure.
V. Christine Connolly presented information on numbers of complaints received in the office from January through June 2002 compared to the same time period for 2001. The numbers are very similar, except there are 10 additional housing complaints in 2002 and 24 additional flood related complaints in 2001.
VI. Ms. Connolly stated information regarding fining for violations to the Food Code are still in review
