Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes-August 23, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p.m. by Nick Minton, the Vice Chairman.
The last months minutes were accepted with no corrections or changes.
The subcommittee reported on the recent case of discrimination at a local pizza parlor. The complainant has filed a complaint form to the Commission and it has been determined that we have jurisdiction. It was moved, seconded and passed unanimously to send a letter to the respondent reporting the complaint.
Chris Carney passed out a sign up sheet for volunteering to man the Human Rights booth at Town day. She will call other members absent to fill in the slots.
Members reported on future Dialogue Programs. There will be no conflict with our planned program for October with the LWV.
A January event is planned on Racial Profiling and in May a movie.
It was decided to ask Bill Shea about progress on finding a new secretary.
A move was made and voted on to ask Nancy Rhodes to send a letter to Suzanne Owayda, the Chairwoman of the Search Committee for a new Supt. Of Schools, to ask to be a representative for the HRC on the Committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
