The Town of Arlington has executed an amended land disposition agreement with Arlington 360 LLC to develop the former Symmes site. Arlington 360 is a partnership between the Jefferson Apartment Group (JAG) and Upton and Partners. Arlington 360 will implement the Upton Plan which was endorsed last summer by the Board of Selectmen, the Arlington Redevelopment Board (ARB), and had the most support from the neighborhood. Construction is planned for Spring 2012 with project completion expected in 2014.
“We are very pleased that JAG and Upton are working together to implement a plan that has the support of Town leaders and the community and that best fits the Town’s needs,” said Town Manager, Brian Sullivan. “We will continue to work with all parties to see this project through toward completion.”
Key elements of the Upton Plan include:
- An expanded vista park (on the former Medical Office Building site)
- 12 Condo/Townhouse units
- 164 rental Apartments
- Assisted Living Facility
"There's tremendous support in the neighborhood for the Upton Plan and the Uptons themselves,” said Michele Barry, Chair of Symmes Neighborhood Advisory Committee. “The end product incorporates all the elements of the Upton Plan: home ownership units, providing a permanently expanded vista park, and the site plan is more aesthetically pleasing. The assisted living is near~to what was hoped for in a medical use on the site.”
Next steps in the development process include planning the assisted living component. To that end, Arlington 360 will introduce a potential developer for the assisted living component, The Shelter Group, in a presentation to Symmes neighbors December 22, 7 p.m., at Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Arlington Town Hall.
