In January 2007 all the elected officials of the Town, the Finance Committee, the Town Manager, and the Superintendent of Schools, held a Financial Summit meeting to look at the Town’s projected financial picture for the next 5 to 7 years. A number of challenges were identified. Two commitments were made - to continue the process and to find ways to involve the larger community. Below is the presentation for that meeting (Summit I).
On June 14th, a second financial summit meeting (Summit II) was held and was conducted as a community input meeting. Below is a summary of this meeting and the presentation delivered by the Town Manager.
On October 2, a third meeting was held (Summit III). This forum was a continuation of previous forums and included residents and Town officials. The meeting focused on six major Town functions and participants were asked to review, add-to, and prioritize the list of ideas gathered from previous summits. The goal was to address the Town’s long-range financial issues by looking at ways to reduce costs and generate revenue. You can review the presentation and results below.
On March 13, 2008 a fourth meeting was held (Summit IV) as a working session of Town officials. A draft of service priorities and emerging trends from all major departments (Police, Fire, Public Works, and Library) are included in the Summit IV Results below.
On June 26, 2008 Town Officials met (Summit V) to focus on prioritizing services. Community input from previous Summit meetings, results from the Vision2020 Survey, and Summit IV Results all served as talking points for discussion. Summit V presentation and draft Minutes can be downloaded below.
These documents are being made available so residents can review them as well as offer their own answers to the questions and offer up their ideas on ways to reduce costs and/or generate revenue for the Town of Arlington.
