Docket No. 3425, Brookline Bank, of 860 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, Massachusetts is seeking to amend an existing granted Special Permit, Docket #2396 as follows: 1) Replacement of the present building sign with new parapet - mounted  lighted metal box channel letters, 2) Replace eixsiting directional sign at driveway with new standing sign at 860 Massachusetts Avenue, under Section 7.00, Paragraph 7.09 Special Permit & Paragraph 7.074a, b & c of the Zoning Bylaw for the Town of Arlington. A representative from Brookline Bank, the Bank's architect, the Bank's sign company and the Bank's consultant presented their case. After Discusion and Q & A from the board, the meeting was opened to the public. No input from the public was heard and the Board then voted unaminously to grant the Special Permit with the following conditions:

1)The new building wall sign shall be on the parapet which shall be an extension of the front wall and not on the roof. The parapet and canopy will be submitted to the Town Building Inspector. The building wall sign shall be 39.75 s.f. or smaller, the lettering element 18 feet long and the letters about two feet high. Only the letters will be illuminated.

2) The new standing sign shall not extend over the sidewalk or driving area, shall in total not exceed 25.5 s.f., shall consist of the two elements as above indicated and shall be illuminated consistent with Section 7.03(e) as applied by the Building Inspector.  


Docket #3419 was continued until May 24, 2011.
