Join the Department of Planning and Community Development on Thursday, January 10, 2019, 7 to 8:30 PM, in the Town Hall Auditorium, 730 Massachusetts Avenue, to learn about proposed zoning recommendations to encourage the development of multifamily housing.
Across the region, the need for housing has increased dramatically and Arlington wants to play its part to enhance the region without compromising the character of the community. If you have ever been concerned that the costs of housing in Arlington are unaffordable, that your friends and family cannot find places to live in Arlington, or that you want housing options where you can easily access Arlington’s unique business community and transit options, come to the January 10 Forum where you can learn our zoning recommendations that could achieve these needs and desires.
The Multifamily Zoning Project builds on recommendations in the Town’s Housing Production Plan, which seeks to increase housing diversity and affordability by facilitating the development of multifamily housing in key locations along Mass Ave and other major corridors. However, the current Zoning Bylaw limits this type of development. The recommendations to be presented were initially discussed by the Arlington Redevelopment Board (ARB) during its December 17th meeting, but more feedback is needed which is the goal of the forum. Balancing the character of the community with housing goals is not easy, and the ARB looks to the community for further direction. Any amendments to the Zoning Bylaw have to be approved by Town Meeting.
The project is supported by a Planning Assistance Grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs and by technical assistance funding from MAPC. For additional information about the proposed recommendations, please contact Erin Zwirko, Assistant Director of Planning and Community Development, at 781-316-3091 or email@example.com.
