Repatriation of U.S. Army SGT George Schipani

On Saturday, June 15th, the remains of U.S. Army SGT George Schipani will be repatriated. His remains were recently identified after being classified as Missing In Action (MIA) since 1951. SGT Schipani succumbed to illness and died in a Prisoner Of War Camp in North Korea in March of 1951. His body was buried by his fellow prisoners following his passing. As a result of on-going efforts to locate the remains of American service members listed as MIA in North Korea, SGT Schipani's remains were recently located and identified.
SGT Schipani entered the military service in Somerville, MA. His next of kin, Mr. Robert Schipani, is an Arlington resident. SGT Schipani's remains will be returning home on Saturday, June 15th. The flight returning him is scheduled to arrive at Logan International Airport at 3:26 p.m. There will be an Honorable Transfer from the plane to the hearse, an escort from the airport to Arlington, and then a Honorable Transfer upon arrival at the funeral home.
SGT George Schipani will be transported to Keefe Funeral Home in Arlington. All Arlington residents are encouraged to attend his arrival ceremony at the funeral home. It is estimated that the escort will be arriving at the funeral home at 4:30 p.m. on June 15th.
