Join the Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee (ABAC) for our annual indoor Bicycling Social community get-together on Tuesday evening, March 31, 7:00-9:00 p.m., at the Kickstand Cafe in Arlington Center. During this year's Bicycling Social, ABAC is hosting an informative presentation focused on family bicycling for local and active transportation.
As climate change, sustainability, traffic congestion, and healthcare make daily news headlines, more people (including families with children) are now choosing to get around by bicycle for environmental, economic, wellness, and other reasons. ABAC’s presentation topics covered will include bicycling for car-free or car-lite lifestyles, how to travel with children (or as a family) without a car, how to go to the grocery store while having a young child in tow on your bike, and more.
During ABAC’s social, Daniel Amstutz, senior transportation planner for the Town of Arlington, will provide a brief overview on why you might consider bicycling for active transportation, including with children on some trips. Carice Reddien, owner of Bicycle Belle, will then speak about what kinds of “utility” bicycles are now available for carrying kids and cargo for local transportation. ABAC member Muris Kobaslija will conclude by talking about his personal experience of how he does it with his family. Both Carice and Muris routinely transport their young children by bicycle as part of their active-transportation lifestyles, and they are looking forward to sharing their perspectives.
ABAC's Bicycling Social will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at the Kickstand Cafe, 594 Massachusetts Ave., in Arlington Center, which will extend its opening hours for this special event from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Light refreshments will be provided and the café’s counter service will also be available. A donation of $5 (or more if you like) is requested to help cover event costs. All proceeds will benefit ABAC’s efforts to improve bicycling conditions in Arlington and beyond.
