Sign up here for an appointment to drop off electronic waste at our new 33 Ryder Street location. If the appointments are full or don't fit your schedule, please check back a few days later for more options.
Electronic waste drop off events are now expanded to include batteries (all kinds except alkaline, which go in the trash), propane tanks (free), fire extinguishers ($5), ink and toner cartridges, and of course all kinds of items that plug in.
There are some items that are very low value in the electronic waste realm, and so we ask residents to place these in your trash instead of bringing them to drop off events. These include fans, vacuum cleaners, and humidifiers. If you bring coffee makers or blenders, please discard the glass pitchers.
What does "low value" mean? Items that may have a lot of dirt, dust, bacteria and mold are difficult to recover materials from, and more of their parts end up as trash, so we'd rather not collect them.
Tube TVs and monitors have little value, but these contain leaded glass which must be disposed of with environmental care.
What has higher value? Computer components, cell phones, and tablets have the highest value, as they contain valuable ores and components that can be reused. Stereo equipment and newer TVs may be harvested for parts before the metals and plastic casings are recycled.
All cords are valuable, as their metal content can be separated and recycled repeatedly. In fact, if you have a low value item, such as a fan, you could cut the cord off and bring just that for Ewaste Recycling.
