Friday Update- Yard waste collection is underway, but there have been some snags.
JRM will be working in town Saturday, April 17 and Monday, April 19 in order to catch up.
Residents have done a great job cleaning up their yards, creating lots of yard waste. Therefore, loads are very heavy for the first few weeks of every yard waste collection season. The trucks can only collect during the hours that the drop off location is open. If the truck is full, it goes to Woburn to unload/dump, and, if there is time, they can return for a second load.
Generally, if JRM is unable to finish a route, they will continue the next morning where they left off the day before. Therefore, please leave your yard waste out overnight. This is the case throughout the 35 week season during which we collect yard waste.
DPW and JRM Recycling and Hauling appreciate resident patience during these first few weeks of collection. By the end of next week (April 23) we expect the trucks will be fully caught up. After that, if you have a missed collection, please contact JRM directly by emailing them at customerservice@jrmhauling.com

Yay, it's spring!
But don't clean up your yard quite yet. Many tiny, helpful, pollinating insects are still dormant and need to hide from predators. Plus the fallen leaves protect your new emerging bulbs.
But if you've already started salivating for the yard trimmings collection, you still have to wait a few weeks. Hang tight, it's coming.
Starting the week of April 12 the Town's contractor, JRM Hauling and Recycling will once again start collecting yard waste. All the past rules are still in effect, and if you've forgotten what they are, check the Zero Waste Guide calendar on Page 5.
Rules in a nutshell:
- Paper bags and barrels marked with the Town's Yard Trimmings bumper are acceptable containers
- No plastics of any kind will ever be acceptable, including plastic twine
- Must be out by 7 AM on the day of collection
- Don't place out before 6 PM the night before- please respect the rules and your neighbors
- Twigs and sticks are fine, branches are not. Please keep to the 1" diameter or smaller. Any thicker than that is not collected. Likewise no logs or stumps.
- Branches, logs, stumps, trees, and root balls must be handled by a private arrangement. Call local landscape companies to compare pricing. Arlington does not have a drop off location for this material.
