The Town of Arlington is pleased to announce a new partnership with Helpsy, offering free home pickup of clothing, textiles, and shoes for Arlington residents.
Beginning October 12th, residents can schedule a pickup of these items to take place on Wednesdays. Items must be placed in clean bags (unused garbage bags).
To sign up and learn about the program, visit www.helpsy.co/arlingtonma or call 1-800-244-6350.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, textile waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the United States, occupying nearly 5% of all landfill space. Recycling clothing and textiles through Helpsy gives them the longest life possible.
“Keeping clothing, shoes, sheets, towels, etc. out of the trash is vital to reducing Arlington’s trash weight,” said Arlington’s DPW Recycling Coordinator Charlotte Milan. “Residents are always asking how they can help divert more of our trash, so recycling textiles at the curb is a great solution. It’s an easy-to-use addition to the programs we can offer our residents.”
Arlington is joining 14 other towns in Massachusetts in partnering with Helpsy.

ABOUT HELPSY: Helpsy is a Certified B Corp on a mission to radically change the way we think about, dispose of, recycle, and buy second-hand clothing. Through innovations like Helpsy Shop – a new direct-to-consumer way to shop used clothing – and Helpsy Source – a sustainable wholesale resource for e-commerce sellers – Helpsy is shifting perceptions around used clothing by helping reduce the impact that clothing production has on our planet and change the statistic that 85% of clothes currently end up in the trash.
