Arlington Civic Academy Application Open
Learn how Arlington works in 6-week course. Apply by March 8th
Civic Academies are community engagement and educational opportunities conducted by municipalities across the country to encourage civic engagement and provide educational materials for the public on how Town government operates. In the spring 2026 Arlington will conducting its sixth Civic Academy.
Participants will gain knowledge of how the Town works and the role they can play in town government.
Each course will provide an overview of government operations led by Town officials with discussion and/or a hands-on activity. The Civic Academy is geared to provide information to those who are interested in joining a Town committee or may want to run for Town Meeting or other elected office.
Academy Overview

Meet six consecutive weeks, Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., April 9th – May 14th.

Enrollment of up to 20 participants.

Classes will be held in ADA accessible municipal buildings in Arlington.

Snacks will be available.
Curriculum Overview (subject to change)

April 9 Overview of Town governance and Town operations.

April 16 Libraries, and Arlington Public Schools

April 23: Public Works, Inspectional Services, and Fire

April 30: Health & Human Services, Department of Planning and Community Development, and Police

May 7: Recreation, Town Clerk/How to Get Involved, and Budget and Finance
- May 14: Graduation
Requirements for Participation

Must be a current resident of Arlington.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

All Arlington residents are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to those residents with less than 2 years of experience serving on a Town committee or in Town Meeting.

To be considered for the Spring 2026 cohort, please complete this application by Sunday, March 8th. Arlington Civic Academy is limited to 20 participants.
