Arlington Recreation Has Moved to the Parmenter School

Located at 17 Irving St.

Post Date:05/20/2024 3:53 PM

On May 21, 2024, Arlington’s Recreation Department moved from its location at the Ed Burns Arena on Summer Street to its new location at 17 Irving Street, the former Parmenter School building.

“We are thrilled for our students, staff, and families to be able to share the benefits that come with this move,” said Joe Connelley, Director of Recreation. “The new location provides more space for additional programming and more capacity for enrollments to the popular Kid Care programs and other amenities. I’d like to thank Arlington’s Information Technology and Facilities department in making the move a smooth one.”

Starting this fall, the Recreation-run Kid Care Preschool and Afterschool programs will be held at this new location. These programs are very popular and often result in waitlists for enrollments. The spaciousness of the Parmenter School will permit a larger number of participants to attend these programs as well as expanding Recreation programming offerings in general. Additionally, Recreation staff will be in the same building as the Kid Care program, making it easier for staff to help families and participants. Another benefit of the move is the newly renovated playground onsite, that was completed in 2023 under the direction of the Park and Recreation Commission.

The space currently utilized at Ed Burns Arena will be used a multi-purpose meeting room, new skate rental room, and new referee locker room.
