The Arlington Police Department is proud to announce that it has donated $2,972.83 to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism following a successful community fundraising initiative during Autism Acceptance Month in April.
All proceeds will benefit the foundation’s essential programs, including camp scholarships, medical equipment access, and direct financial support for families affected by autism.
This year’s fundraiser featured a custom-designed autism awareness patch and t-shirt, created by Officer Thomas Guanci, who brought a deeply personal connection to the project. His design thoughtfully represents both the individuality and unity of the autism community.
The campaign was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Officer Guanci and Officer Jennifer McGurl, who organized and managed the sale of the patches and t-shirts. In recognition of their creativity, commitment, and exceptional leadership, both officers received Certificates of Accommodation and Letters of Recognition from Chief Julie Flaherty.
Throughout April, Arlington Police officers proudly wore the commemorative patches, and the department invited community members to show their support by purchasing patches and t-shirts. The campaign met with tremendous support, reflecting Arlington’s strong commitment to inclusion, acceptance, and advocacy for individuals with autism and their families.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported this initiative,” said Chief Julie Flaherty. “This campaign reflects our ongoing commitment—not just to public safety—but to being a compassionate, inclusive presence in our community.”
The Arlington Police Department thanks all residents, local businesses, and staff members who helped make this campaign a success. Together, we are building a more inclusive and supportive community for all.
