Crosby Courts- Construction update 8/17/2026
Construction at the Crosby Courts continues this week, beginning with the removal of two trees. Additional demolition will occur at the site following tree work. After an initial site visit with the contractor and subsequent consultation with the Tree Warden, it was determined the trees needed to be removed to achieve the goals of the project.
The first tree is located at the Oxford Street entrance to the park. The shallow roots of this tree interfere with installing and maintaining the required ADA-compliant accessible route for all users. The second tree is located adjacent to the courts on Oxford Street. The root system of the tree damaged the existing court surface and would be expected to damage the new courts. Additionally, excavation and installation of a new post will damage the existing tree.
Tree removal is only considered a measure of last resort and was necessary to protect infrastructure and ensure accessibility. The Recreation Department is currently working with the design team to explore replacement plantings or other landscaping improvements at the site.
Crosby Courts - Construction update 7/31/2026
The Crosby Court renovation project is scheduled to begin in August. The Town is using Quirk Construction to perform the work. The area will be closed until work is completed in late fall. Temporary fencing will go up the week of August 3rd with demolition and renovation to follow throughout summer and fall. The newly renovated area will include 4 tennis courts (two of the tennis courts will be lined to create 4 pickleball courts). The area will also include a basketball court, which will be lined for futsal, and a hitting wall for tennis.

About the Crosby Tennis Courts Renovation Project
As an outcome of the 2023 Athletic Court Needs Assessment, Crosby Park was identified as a priority site for court renovations. In the fall of 2025 the Park and Recreation Commission and the design consultant, Activitas, Inc, solicited community input via a survey and at Park and Recreation Commission meetings before adopting a final design.
This project is being funded through Community Preservation Act.
