The Town encourages residents to stay safe during the winter. Protect yourself from extreme cold and take care when traveling or removing snow. Public Health officials offer the following tips:
- Stay warm indoors to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. If you must go outside, dress properly for the weather: wear layers of loose clothing, a coat, hat, mittens, and water-resistant boots. Use a scarf to cover your face and mouth.
- Avoid travel if you can. If you need to travel, consider having emergency supplies in your vehicle, such as a blanket, warm clothing, a first aid kit, and boots.
- Ensure electronics are charged and have flashlights, batteries, and power banks on hand in the event of a power outage.
- Have a supply of non-perishable food and water in the event you do not leave your home for a few days.
- Check on loved ones and neighbors to make sure they are safe. Certain populations may be at increased risk of hypothermia and frostbite, including older individuals, babies, people with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness.
