Massachusetts law requires gas meters to be replaced every seven years. These exchanges help ensure accurate, timely billing and confirm that metering equipment is operating properly.
For the past several months, National Grid has been working to contact customers in Arlington whose gas meters are past due for replacement. They have used multiple outreach methods, including mail, email, text messages, phone calls, and door-to-door in-person visits. Despite these efforts, they still report they have a significant number of customers with aging meters who have not scheduled an appointment.
While they will continue outreach to comply with this MA regulation, they may need to temporarily interrupt service to customers who do not schedule an appointment. Gas Meter Appointments can be scheduled by calling National Grid at 1-800-233-5325 or by visiting the National Grid website.
