Update #3: July 9, 2026

Night work at the intersection of Mass Ave and Pleasant St is anticipated to be complete as of July 10th. Beginning as early as July 13th, construction work will continue on Pleasant St from Mass Ave to Irving St during standard daytime hours (9AM-3PM). Please note that daytime work hours may be extended from 7AM-5PM at the discretion of the Arlington Police Department pending work location. Project work is expected to continue through the remainder of the summer. Traffic delays are anticipated and it is recommended that travelers seeks alternate routes if feasible.

Update #2: June 24, 2026

A water main shutdown will impact select properties on Mass Ave between Central St and Mass Ave from approximately 10PM-5AM on the evening of June 24-25. This water main shutdown is required to allow for the new Pleasant St water main to be connected to the existing main located in Mass Ave. The shutdown will predominantly impact properties that are located on the north side of Mass Ave. Please note that the shutdown could begin earlier (between 8PM-10PM) if preparatory work advances faster than expected. Businesses and residents are advised to plan accordingly and fill containers with water prior to the shutdown as appropriate for emergency use.

Update #1: June 12, 2026

Night work at the intersection of Mass Ave and Pleasant St is anticipated to begin the night of June 21-22 between 8PM-5AM and continue for approximately 3-4 weeks. Night work is being completed in the interest of traffic impacts and public safety. Detours and traffic delays and are anticipated and it is recommended that travelers seeks alternate routes if feasible. Please note that the start date represents a one week delay from what was originally identified in the night work notice that was sent to abutters. 

Project Notice

The Town of Arlington through its contractor A.D. Paolini LLC, will be completing Phase #2 of a Water Main Rehabilitation Project on Pleasant Street, beginning as early as June 8th. This work is a continuation of the water main construction completed in 2025 and is anticipated to complete the water system improvements required along Pleasant Street. The work will predominantly be located between Massachusetts Avenue and Irving Street, though select excavation and rehabilitation work is also expected between Irving Street and Kensington Park. Once started, work is expected to continue into the early fall.

Project work will typically be performed between the hours of 9AM-3PM, though night work will be required at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Pleasant Street. Night work hours are anticipated to be between 8PM-5AM and impacted abutters will receive additional notification. Traffic Safety Police Details will be onsite and alternating one-lane traffic patterns are likely during much of the project work. Please plan travel along this corridor accordingly as delays are anticipated.

This project will replace and rehabilitate water mains and associated infrastructure that has reached the end of their useful life and will improve water distribution system reliability.
