Update #5 - September 3, 2026:
Installation of the new water main and all regulatory testing has been completed. The contractor anticipates beginning the installation of new water service pipes to impacted properties the week of September 8th following the Labor Day holiday. Installation of the new water service pipes will once again require the contractor to gain access to each building to adjust internal valving and restore permanent water service. Once permanent water service is reestablished to a building, the water meter will be active and regular monitoring of water use will resume.
Update #4 - August 25, 2026:
The water main shutdown originally scheduled for Tuesday, August 25th, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 26th. The shutdown extents have also been expanded to impact all properties on Irving Street between Jason Street and Pleasant Street. The interruption in water service is expected to begin at approximately 8 AM and will be restored as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the work day (approximately 3 PM). Impacted customers are advised to fill containers with water ahead of the shutdown for use during the shutdown period.
Update #3 - August 24, 2026:
Installation of the new water main pipe on Academy Street is now substantially complete. To finalize the connection of the new water main to the existing Town water system, a water main shutdown will be completed on Irving Street between Jason Street and Academy Street on Tuesday, August 25th. The interruption in water service is expected to begin at approximately 8 AM and will be restored as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the work day (approximately 3 PM). Impacted customers are advised to fill containers with water ahead of the shutdown for use during the shutdown period.
Following completion of the water main connection work at the intersection of Academy Street and Irving Street, the water main will undergo pressure testing and water quality sampling. Upon successful completion of those tests, the contractor will begin reestablishing permanent service connections to impacted buildings on Academy Street. It is anticipated that all water main construction work on Academy Street will be completed within 2-3 weeks.
Update #2 - August 11, 2026:
All buildings in the project area have been connected to the temporary water main bypass system. To accommodate the installation of the new water main, a water main shutdown will be completed on Academy St between Mass Ave and Maple St on Wednesday, August 12th. The interruption in water service is expected to begin at approximately 8 AM and will be restored as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the work day (approximately 3 PM). Impacted customers are advised to fill containers with water ahead of the shutdown for use during the shutdown period.
Update #1 - August 7, 2026:
The temporary water main bypass system has been constructed and passed all regulatory testing. A.D. Paolini has begun connecting impacted buildings to the temporary main and construction work for the installation of the new water main is anticipated to begin as early as August 12th.
Initial Notice - July 13, 2026:
The Town of Arlington, through its contractor A.D. Paolini LLC, will be completing a Water Main Rehabilitation Project on Academy Street between Maple Street and Irving Street, beginning as early as July 20th. Once started, work is expected to continue through the end of August. Project work will typically be performed between the hours of 7AM-5PM.
This project will replace and rehabilitate water mains and associated infrastructure that has reached the end of their useful life and will improve water distribution system reliability. Following completion of the water main project, the Town intends to complete a Road Rehabilitation Project as early as Fall 2026. Additional notification will be provided to abutters in regard to the Road Rehabilitation project scope, schedule, and other pertinent information once details are finalized.
