National Recovery Month is observed every September to celebrate the gains made by those in recovery from substance use disorder.   

To recognize National Recovery month, Arlington Overcomes Addiction is hosting a free screening of the documentary Recovery City followed by a panel discussion with the film’s director and four of its subjects. 

Directed by Lisa Olivieri, Recovery City is an intimate, cinema-verité portrait of addiction and survival in Worcester, Massachusetts. It follows four women using their lived experiences to navigate trauma, confront systemic stigma, and support others on the path to healing.   

According to Olivieri “Many recovery stories we’ve seen end when the person proclaims their sobriety, but in fact, this is when the hard work of recovery actually begins. In the case of women, this is the launch of their journey to rebuild and reclaim all that they lost in the wake of their addiction.”  

Recovery City will be shown on Sept. 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Arlington High Discourse Lab, 869 Mass Ave. The screening is free and all are welcome.
