We can't do this without you!
Arlington has drastically reduced the weight of trash we send to the incinerator and then landfill each year, thanks to solid local and state policy as well as the partnership and commitment of our residents. We have a more work to do to help reach state goals, so let's redouble our commitment.
Whether you remind a neighbor when to put out the recycling, warn a fellow household member not to wishful recycle, or re-commit to using less packaging whenever possible, you are contributing to our waste diversion practices in Town, and we're glad you're part of the waste solution!
If you're ready to take another step, here are a few suggestions:
- Our single-use plastic bag ban in coming into enforcement this winter, so now is a great time to get in the habit of bringing your reusable grocery bags into the store with you, every time.
- In time for chilly weather, dig out that reusable hot beverage cup. We can help save our local coffee shops serious $$: if 5,000 disposable cups are NOT used every day, we could save them $90,000 a year !!
- Stop trying to recycle single-use hot beverage cups. They may look recyclable, but they are not. They must go in the trash. If you ignore this advice, you are contributing contamination to our recycling stream. A harsh word, but accurate.
- Re-think placing household items at the curb as bulky trash- think REUSE instead. There are lots of nonprofit organizations that would be glad to find a new home for very useful stuff. Check out a new thrift shop just over the border into Belmont called Restoration Project
Thank you for Recycling and Reusing !!
