June 6 Recycling Center CANCELED

Post Date:04/27/2020 8:00 AM

This event is canceled due to stay at home requirements.

What you can do in the meantime:

Sharps- The Health Department recommends that residents reach out to the doctor who prescribed the medication/medical sharps for information about mail-back programs. The next scheduled collection will hope to be late summer.

Secure document shredding- Both the UPS Stores and Staples offer secure document shredding for a fee. The next scheduled shredding event will hope to be late summer.

Bikes Not Bombs- please be in touch with them directly for immediate donation information. We hope to schedule the next collection for the fall.

Boston Building Resources- please be in touch with them for drop offs to their warehouse. We hope to schedule the next collection for the fall.

Clothes, shoes, textiles and books/media- The collection bins for these items have been moved to the publicly accessible visitor parking area at DPW, 51 Grove Street, so they may be accessed 24/7.

Electronics, propane tanks, fire extinguishers and batteries- DPW has suspended our recycling drop off programs until further notice. Rechargeable, nicad, lithium and button cell batteries can be returned to Shattuck and Wanamaker hardware stores. Televisions and computer monitors are banned form the trash, please email JRM if you need these collected ASAP, the cost is $38-$50 depending on the size:

Batteries and fluorescent bulbs can be returned to Shattuck and Wanamaker hardware stores for safe disposal through the Town's mercury recovery program.

White packing foam is made of 95% air, and we really want to keep it (and all plastics) out of our natural environment. It is fine to throw this material in the trash, just please secure it at the curb so it doesn't become litter.

Soft plastic film, such as grocery bags and bubble wrap: the grocery stores may have also suspended their collection of this material for drop-off recycling, so please hang on to them, reuse them in other ways, or place them in your trash. These can never go in curbside recycling.

We look forward to seeing residents and Recycling Center volunteers back recycling together in the future- we miss you all!

Recycle More at the monthly Recycling Center at Arlington DPW, 51 Grove Street.

The Recycling Center offers one weekend morning a month to drop-off hard-to-recycle materials, such as bulky rigid plastic, foam packaging (the stiff kind that breaks when you bend it), scrap metal, clothing & textiles, books & media, plus specialty items on occasion.
