Explore the new Arlington Economic Development Dashboard
The Department of Planning and Community Development has launched the Arlington Economic Development Dashboard to support current and prospective business owners with free access to industry-specific market data on Arlington. This online resource is designed to help businesses access information about the local economy, customers, and competition.
The interactive tool displays market data for entrepreneurs, providing easier access to their industries’ primary customers and competition. For start-ups, the Dashboard’s Business and Investment Assistant guides prospective business owners through the various decision-making processes they have to make when launching an enterprise, including how a company is structured, insurance concerns, and other fundamentals. “Data is only useful if it is easy to access and interpret,” Ali Carter, Economic Development Coordinator said. “The Arlington Economic Development Dashboard provides this access. Through an online portal available at their convenience, entrepreneurs can peruse volumes of data that can help them make choices about where and how they do business in Arlington.”
The release of the Dashboard is one step in an ongoing effort to make data more accessible and to streamline business owners’ experience interfacing with the Town. The Dashboard complements business resources already available on Arlington’s Economic Development webpage, such as a listing of available commercial properties in town and the Arlington Business Guide, which is a business recruitment package developed in cooperation with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. “This set of tools allows us to highlight Arlington’s competitive advantages and share current demographic, geographic and market data that will connect businesses with the community,” said Carter.
The tool was customized for Arlington by Localintel, a Canadian tech startup that was awarded the 2017 Innovation Alley Award from the Smart Cities Council. This tool strengthens the economic development arm of the Department of Planning and Community Development by offering additional resources to attract new commercial investment, support existing businesses, and raise awareness about Arlington’s business climate.
