January 27th Public Presentation on Hazard Mitigation Plan

Comments on the Plan are welcome through February 10.

Post Date:01/16/2020 4:42 PM
The Town of Arlington Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) invites the community to attend a public presentation of the draft Hazard Mitigation Plan. DPCD staff will present the Hazard Mitigation Plan to the Select Board during its meeting on Monday, January 27th, beginning at 7:15 PM. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for feedback from the public.

The Town of Arlington received $17,500 from MEMA in 2018 and is working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to draft the Hazard Mitigation Plan. The planning process incorporated the findings and actionable priorities identified during the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Community Resilience Building Workshop, conducted in January and February 2018, and at a public workshop held in June 2019. The updated Hazard Mitigation Plan documents natural hazards that affect the Town, such as floods, hurricanes, and winter storms, as well as actions that the Town can take to reduce its vulnerability to these hazards.

The draft Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for review. DPCD will accept comments on the draft plan through February 10, 2020. All comments will be incorporated into the plan prior to submission to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for approval. Once completed and approved by the two agencies, the Town will be eligible for federal Hazard Mitigation Grants from FEMA. These grants can be applied for and utilized by the Town to take actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from future disasters.
