The ZBA hears and decides applications for special permits, petitions for variances from the terms of the zoning bylaws, site plan approvals as mandated by the zoning ordinance, and appeals from decisions of the Zoning Enforcement Officer (Building Commissioner).

Application Guidelines 
  • The Inspectional Services Department enforces the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Building, Wiring, Plumbing, and Fuel Gas Codes as well as the Town of Arlington's Zoning Bylaws.
  • Applicants should refer to the Residential Design Guidelines when considering new construction or additions to residential structures in the R0, R1, or R2 zoning districts.
